Bruce L. Taylor

As Lecturer of International Politics and Development Studies at the National University of Rwanda in Butare, Mr. Taylor and his students will be actively engaged with many grassroots, Rwandan NGOs.

The three primary foci will be:

1. the improvement of curricula and pedagogy for elementary and secondary schools and incentives for girls to continue their education;

2. support for HIV-AIDS preventive and treatment initiatives by local women’s and community groups;

3. the establishment of a Community Service-Learning program at the National University of Rwanda.

Local NGO partners will include such highly respected groups as:

1. the Rwandan Women Community Development Network (RWCDN) and their "Village of Hope" projects: HIV-AIDS Care and Support in Kagugu Sector, Gisozi; Home-Based Care Training of Trainers and Provision of Home Care in Kicukiro; and Orphan Student Support in Kigali Urban and Umutara Provinces;

2. the Tides Foundation, which provides grants for HIV-AIDS treatment literacy, and palliative care at the community level to women, assists orphans and other AIDS-affected children, and supports associations of people living with HIV-AIDS;

3. the African Women’s Development Fund (AWDD), which administers small grants to African women' s groups in areas such as women’s and girls’ human rights, political participation, peacebuilding, reproductive rights, prevention and treatment of HIV-AIDS, and economic empowerment.
