About Community Service-Learning

Community Service-Learning is a paradigm shift in education from a focus on the student to a balance between the student and the nation - or the common good. The outcome? University relevance and community development. A win-win for all six program partners: students, faculty, NGOs and other community organizations, the nation, the government - and especially an exciting opportunity for universities.

Imagine …

Example:

When science students collect and soil and water samples and present their findings to a local environmental agency … that is Community Service-Learning.

Taylor & Associates, Canada is committed to the establishment of Community Service-Learning Programs at universities in developing countries. Our five year goal, 2007 - 2012, is to establish Community Service-Learning Programs at ten universities in Africa and Asia, with students engaged in applying academic skills to solving real world issues.

Picture hundreds of 1,000s of university students learning through community service in both urban and rural placements, all over Africa and Asia - not separate from but integral to their courses and degrees. That’s the exciting world of Community Service-Learning!
